Course Overview
The purpose of this Competency Unit is to enable the WSH Coordinator or Supervisor to acquire the knowledge and be equipped with the application skills to supervise construction work for workplace safety and health. This Competency Unit is designed to focus on building the competency of the WSH Coordinator or Supervisor in identifying the common hazards and risks in the workplace and taking appropriate control measures in supervising WSH in the construction industry.
This Competency Unit is a WSQ Level 3 Elective Unit of the Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety & Health (WSH). It is a mandatory unit for individuals who are assigned to undertake the role of a supervisor in the construction industry. This unit covers the specific competency requirements for the WSH Supervisor in the construction industry. It complements the core units in the Workplace Safety & Health Professionals (WSHP) WSQ Framework that cover the general knowledge and skill in WSH legal and other requirements and risk control and management.
This unit will be relevant to Construction Site Supervisor, Clerk-of-work, Foreman, Site engineer, WSH Coordinator, WSH Supervisor or individuals who undertake the role of a supervisor in the construction industry.
Recommended Learning Hours (RLH):
RLH = 28 training hours + 4 summative assessment hours

What You'll Learn
Each learner must be able to demonstrate competency in each of the essential performance statements as specified in the competency standard for this unit:
Explain and interpret salient WSH legislations and other requirements relevant to construction industry
Describe the WSH duties and responsibilities of a supervisor in construction industry
Assist in safety and health planning and organisation at worksite
Carry out WSH inspections in accordance with organisational inspection procedures
Conduct incident investigation and prepare report in accordance with legal requirements and other organisational requirements
Entry Requirements
Credit Exemption
Credit exemption refers to the automatic granting of a competence result based on a learner’s former demonstration of competency in the unit. Credit (advanced standing) can only be given when the equivalence between two units is articulated in curriculum documentation.
The Competency Unit or Course that can exempt anyone from this unit is the Building Construction Supervisor Safety Course -BCSS.
Learners are assumed to:
•Possess Employability Skills (ES)Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 4 and above, or equivalent

– Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
– At least 30% local shareholding by Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
