Course Overview
Data is more valuable than ever before in our increasingly digital world. If this data falls into the wrong hands or is misused, it can cause serious harm to both individuals and businesses. This carelessness has led to a growing number of data breaches. To protect ourselves, we need to be more careful with how we handle data. The Singapore Personal Data Protection Act was introduced in 2012 to better protect the data of individuals in Singapore. The act covers all forms of data including, but not limited to, name, email address, contact information, identification number, bank details, health records, and so on. The act also provides for the setting up of a Do Not Call Registry to better protect individuals from unsolicited telemarketing calls.
Under the PDPA, organisations are required to provide individuals with information about the purposes for which their personal data will be used, as well as the expected duration of the data retention. Organisations are also required to take reasonable steps to ensure the personal data is accurate and complete, and to protect the personal data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure.
This course is designed for individuals who want to learn practical data governance and data protection skills. It aims to help individuals learn how to use risk-based tools to create a reliable data protection framework for their organisation. This course is ideal for those who are involved in data protection activities and want to learn more about how to effectively protect data.
