This module Horizontal surface maintenance is developed to train cleaning professionals in applying best practices in cleaning methods as applied to hard floor maintenance which would lead to productivity and efficiency. This allows them to perform cleaning services safely in accordance to workplace safety and health policies and procedures and to meet clients’ satisfaction.
The program will train learners to verify they have the proper cleaning materials available for their operations, set up signages and equipment to prevent slips trips and falls hazards.
Cleaning work involves identifying PPEs when working to ensure that workers avoid contact with contaminated chemicals. Different methods of cleaning procedures will be imparted e.g dust mopping, scrubbing, for different types of spillages, dirt, dust and debris as well as drying of the floors. Learners will be guided towards identifying the problems with hard floor surfaces, cleaning methods to remove the various types of dirt appropriately.
As required learners will be able to reinstate the work area, collect and remove waste after cleaning, check for damages and report to their supervisors or building owners and in making their work environment safe for themselves and other customers, abide by their organisation’s SOPs, policies and procedures, recognize and report unsafe work practices and assist in safety planning and able to report incidents of safety hazards, workplace accidents to the respective stakeholders. Due to the higher standards imposed by the authorities in the height of a pandemic outbreak, organizations managing the cleanliness of the premises will adopt a higher standard in compliance with cleaning standards and outcomes.
